When you think about your dream home, does the house in which you currently reside meet the criteria? Or is it lacking a little something? Perhaps you’d like to remodel a part of it.
When a project comes along involving the re-modelling of a house, it really excites us. Different clients have different reasons as to why they’d want to re-model; this could be because they want to sell it and move on, but the house isn’t quite up to scratch and therefore wouldn’t sell for as much as it could. Or they may want to create a more aesthetically pleasing space to live in themselves, perhaps the house is just looking a little tired. Whatever the reason. we’re happy to help with the process.
In the past, we have had projects where the clients have wanted those things, and so we’ve been called in to help them achieve their personal, dreamt up ‘havens’. Sometimes clients believe that they don’t have the imagination for such a project, but little do they know that they do, they just may not have the technical knowledge to fulfil their vision, and that’s where we can help.
We have had a few projects coming up recently which have included the re-modelling of houses, and it’s got us thinking. Sometimes a bad house in a good area can be so much better than a good house in a bad area. Why? Because you can always improve the house, but you can’t improve the whole neighbourhood in which it’s in, not to mention a good area always feels safer.
When remodelling a home, there are a few main things you should be thinking about while in the process, some before the process even start. Some of the fundamentals are how you can reduce heat loss throughout your home; this may be through insulation in the roof, or double glazing on the windows (but the ways in which you can insulate your house aren’t limited to these options). You should also think of the waterproofing of your home (you may even wish to include in your contract, provisions for completing before the rain starts, this would include a roof at the very least). Perhaps one of the reasons for making the decision to remodel your house is the fact that you would like to make it more suitable for disabled people to navigate their way through it easily. This may involve the need to expand a few rooms, so you would need to think about the overall layout of your house so that everything fits in.
There are so many ways to make a tired house look fresh and modern, some solutions are so simple, you’ll wonder why you haven’t thought of them before, like giving the exterior a new coat of paint. If the interior looks a little drab, or you just feel like a change then there are so many small changes you can make which will have your house feeling like new.
When it comes to interior design, the ‘romantics’ like to make an impact through focal points and drama. Interior designers can use these to create a certain image, but they also have contrast, colour and scale to play with.
