We’ve Received A Best Of Houzz 2016 Award!

We’re very pleased to have been recognised for this as we pride ourselves on delivering the best service that we can. This is made even better by the fact that it’s been awarded by a body such as Houzz, which is meant specifically for anyone with an interest in house design, so architects, interior designers, kitchen designers and anyone else in the industry can really thrive here.

These awards are given out annually in three different categories; Design, Customer service and photography. Winners of the design awards were the people whose work was the most popular amongst all users on Houzz. The customer service award was won by people dependent on a number of factors including the number and quality of recent client reviews. Photographs which were the most popular were recognised with a photography award.

We’ve included the press release Houzz published for these awards below for those of you interested in knowing more about it, although it only mentions North America, awards have been given out in the UK as well. We’d also like to thank all who have supported us so far, and hope that they continue to do so.

We’re on Houzz

We’ve recently set up a profile on a social media platform called Houzz, this is all about design, mainly interior design and lifestyle images. We like to think of it as a more specialised version of Pinterest, but specifically for design. Imagine the stack of magazines from which you’ve been trying to get ideas for your home, when you try to find the specific images again it can be quite time-consuming.

That is where Houzz can help you and your designer(s). Houzz has a large directory of beautiful photos which you can browse through, one of its main features allows you to put groups of images into groups called ‘ideabooks’. These ideabooks could be thought of as your online scrapbooks, other people can also add to your ideabooks if you send them an invite. So your interior designer, or architect could share ideas with you just by adding photos to this online scrapbook of yours!

You could be looking for a certain type of style for your room or home. You can search Houzz for images with a certain style in mind, it will search its repertoire of images and you can see if there’s anything you like. When you click on an image, it will show you other images in that ideabook as well as other images people who have liked that image have also liked. So you can view images that people who have a similar taste to you have found, making it easier to find ideas your dream room(s).

What’s more, you can find professionals to hire for certain aspects of the designs and perhaps even building your vision. There is also a review system based upon what people think of that particular professional so that you can check their reputation and view their projects and ideabooks. There is also an advice section where you can post any design related queries you might have for other design enthusiasts, or professionals to answer. You can ask about certain products in photos, post your own photos and ask for advice and a lot more!

Apprenticeships

Social media and digital media apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships

If you follow our blog at all then you may remember that we posted an entry last year about an event which we spoke at about apprenticeships, social media and digital marketing.

If you do not follow our blog, I will bring you up to speed now.

Building Tectonics is a member of the Federation of Small Businesses (or FSB for short). Last November, the FSB hosted an event at which two of our employees spoke at. The event was about apprenticeships, social media and digital marketing and the employees were speaking about taking on an apprentice for this role from the point of view of a business and as the apprentice. The company who supplies the apprenticeship had two of their employees attend the event as well, one of which spoke from their point of view. Penny Power was also there giving her views on digital marketing and social media, giving a short crash course in how it can help you, and how digital media apprentices can benefit your businesses.

There was a high attendance at this event, and it was successful in increasing awareness of the benefits of employing an apprentice, and the impact which social and digital marketing can have on your business.

I received an email this week which made me realise that we had more impact on people at that event than we had initially thought. The company who supplies the apprenticeship which I completed got into contact with me to let me know about a new apprenticeship scheme they were starting due to the event.

Therefore we have not only brought awareness to business owners about the positives of the apprenticeships scheme, but we have helped to give people the chance too acquire new skills and maybe even a job through this new apprenticeship.

Upon further conversation with an employee of the apprenticeship supplier in question, it was said that employing a social media apprentice could definitely benefit you and your business too, in the sense that:

  • They would bring your business up to date with competitors.
  • The apprentice would learn how to monitor competitor activity online.
  • It would increase your businesses online presence.
  • The apprentice would understand how to make the most of free online advertising. So they will save you money on Advertising and Marketing.
  • They don’t necessarily need to be supported or shown what to do by anyone in the business as their training is tailored to the business with constant support of their trainer.
  • Government offer a grant of £1500 for taking on an apprentice

If you’d like any details on the apprenticeship, please don’t hesitate to ask!
